If you have been shopping certified pre-owned GMC or Buick vehicles for a while, the program you remember is not the program you will find on our lot today. In June 2026, GM folded the Chevrolet, Buick and GMC certified programs into one called CarBravo, and the inspection, the warranty and the exchange window all changed. Some of it got better. Some of it went away. Either way, the old numbers still floating around the internet will steer you wrong.

What changed in June 2026?

Effective June 2, 2026, GM retired the separate Buick and GMC Certified Pre-Owned programs and moved all three of its volume brands, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC, under CarBravo. The old structure, with its 172-point inspection, its six-year powertrain warranty, its short three-day exchange and its two included maintenance visits, is gone. In its place is a 126-point inspection, a 12-month/12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty with no deductible, a 10-day/500-mile exchange, and a second tier called BravoBudget for older or higher-mileage vehicles that could never be certified before. CarBravo at a glance

CarBravo has two tiers. The standard tier is what most people mean by “certified.” BravoBudget is a lighter certification for vehicles that have aged or traveled past the standard cutoff but still deserve an inspection and a short warranty. Here is what each one includes.

Two things on that table deserve a second look. First, the coverage start: if you buy a certified Terrain that still has a year of its original factory bumper-to-bumper warranty, the CarBravo warranty does not start until that factory coverage runs out, so you get both back to back. Second, there is no separate long powertrain warranty anymore. If a longer powertrain term matters to you, that is a service contract conversation, and we will have it honestly. How does a vehicle get certified at our Monroe store?

It starts with a screen, not an inspection. Before a technician ever opens the hood, a vehicle has to clear the age and mileage cutoff for its tier and come back clean on a CARFAX Vehicle History Report. A vehicle with a branded title, flood history or unresolved damage does not go into the certified process at all, no matter how good it looks.

From there, the vehicle goes to our service department on N 18th Street for the 126-point inspection (62 points for BravoBudget). Brakes, tires, suspension, steering, the engine and transmission, the cooling system, the air conditioning, every window and lock and seat motor, the infotainment screen, the lights, the wipers, the horn: every item is checked against GM’s standard and anything that fails gets repaired or replaced with the vehicle’s condition brought up to spec before it is certified. Any open safety recall is completed at the same time. That reconditioning is the real cost of certification and the reason a certified vehicle is priced differently than the same year and model sold as-is.

Only after all of that does a vehicle get the CarBravo designation and show up in our certified inventory. Which GMC and Buick models can be certified?

Any GMC or Buick that clears the age, mileage, history and inspection standard can be certified. In practice, the certified vehicles that come through Monroe most often are the ones North Louisiana buys most: Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD pickups, Yukon and Yukon XL, Acadia, Terrain and Canyon on the GMC side, and Enclave, Envision, Encore GX and Envista on the Buick side.

A few notes from watching what works for people here. A certified Sierra is often a two- or three-year-old truck coming off a lease, which means it has the current cab, the MultiPro Tailgate on most trims, and a fair amount of original factory warranty left for the CarBravo coverage to stack behind. A certified Yukon or Yukon XL is the vehicle people ask about most, because it is the family-plus-boat-plus-hurricane-bag vehicle for this part of the state, and buying it certified takes the biggest single worry off a big-SUV purchase. On the Buick side, the Enclave and Envision are the quiet-cabin, long-highway-mile choices that retirees and commuters between Monroe, Bastrop and Farmerville gravitate toward, and the Encore GX and Envista are where a lot of first certified purchases happen for ULM students and young families. Buick trims run Preferred, Sport Touring and Avenir; GMC trims run from Pro and SLE through SLT, AT4 and Denali. How does CarBravo compare with a regular used vehicle on our lot?

A regular used vehicle at Jim Taylor Buick GMC is not sold bare. Eligible used vehicles, those under 10 years old with under 140,000 miles, come with the Jim Taylor Assurance Warranty, a dealer-backed limited powertrain warranty. It is the floor. CarBravo sits above it and is broader and longer. Here is the honest side-by-side.

Which one is right depends on the vehicle and on you. A four-year-old Acadia with a clean history and 45,000 miles is a strong certified candidate, and the bumper-to-bumper coverage is worth real money on a vehicle full of electronics. A nine-year-old Sierra with 130,000 miles cannot be certified at the standard tier and might be a BravoBudget vehicle, or might simply be a well-priced used truck with the Assurance Warranty behind it. The rule at our store is that every used vehicle has one specific coverage that applies to it, and you should ask which one before you make an offer. Can a non-GM vehicle be certified?

Yes. This is one of the bigger changes from the old program. CarBravo dealers can certify non-GM vehicles as well as GM ones, so a trade-in from another brand that meets the age and mileage cutoff and passes the inspection can carry the same 12-month/12,000-mile coverage and the same 10-day/500-mile exchange.

The one caveat is that covered components can vary for non-GM makes, so read the warranty document for that specific vehicle rather than assuming it mirrors a certified Sierra line for line. My take on buying certified in Monroe

I like the program change more than I expected to. The old certified structure sounded impressive on paper, but a long powertrain-only warranty does not help when the thing that fails on a modern SUV is a screen, a camera or a power liftgate. Twelve months of bumper-to-bumper coverage with no deductible, stacked behind whatever factory warranty is left, is the coverage people here actually use. And a 10-day exchange window is long enough to drive the vehicle to Farmerville and back, put a child seat in it, and find out whether the third row really works for your family.
